ALBA Bolsters Regional Cooperation

Maracay, Venezuela, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) With three new members and the inclusion of two observers, the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) is making another step Wednesday towards integration and cooperation.

Ecuador, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Antigua and Barbuda are joining the initiative formed by Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, based on understanding and attention to asymmetries.

ALBA's strength is also corroborated with the presence of Paraguay and Grenada as observers to its extraordinary summit.

The initiative is part of a series of cooperation mechanisms of new kind like Petrocaribe which, according to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, complement each other for regional unity and cooperation.

Far beyond trade, the ALBA and Petrocaribe looks for sustainable development in the region, strongly supporting the production of provisions to guarantee food sovereignty, apart form its marked social content.
