Chavez to Uribe: Rebuild Confidence

Caracas, May 23 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez urged his Colombian peer Alvaro Uribe to regain the confidence lost between their governments.

From Brasilia, where he is attending the summit of the Union of South American Nations, Chavez told state-Venezolana de Television on Friday that they met for a few minutes and he told Uribe about his commitment to peace and to respect for differences.

Chavez described their meeting as relaxed. "I think it was worthwhile and even nice," he said.

He termed as "wonderful" the idea to create the South American Defense Council and explained that the heads of State present in the summit decided to set up a commission to draft a project in this regard.

Regarding the Bogota decision to remain out of the defensive alliance, Chavez said that every country has its peculiarities and they must be respected.
