Venezuela Runners Jockey for Votes


Caracas, Nov 13 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan Political Parties and independent candidates intensify their electoral actions with only ten days left before the regional elections on November 23rd.

  • Almost 17 million Venezuelans are registered to choose 22 governors, 328 mayors, 233 members of legislatives councils, 13 councils to the Caracas Town Hall and seven of Alto Apure Town Hall.

    The state of Amazonas does not choose a governor because it participates in a different schedule mode.

    According to electoral regulations, those who opt to be candidates can renounce their postulations up to 48 hours before the election date, but can’t be substituted by others.

    Besides the efforts made by President Chavez followers grouped in the Patriotic Alliance headed by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and the opposition parties, none were able to conform a perfect front for the election.

    However, various polls point to a win by socialist candidates in the majority of states with a hard race in Nueva Esparta, Zulia, Carabobo, Sucre and Tachira.

    In massive acts celebrated all over the country, Chavez calls constantly to his followers to go out and vote for PSUV’s proposals which were elected in internal primary elections this past June.

    The head of state and leader of that political force has said that there is a real chance to win all states, which will guarantee the revolutionary process started in 1999.

    At the same time, Chavez has warned that the opposition lacks a government plan and their only interest is to take him out of power before 2013, when his term ends.
