Caracas, 31 May. AVN.- Venezuela's foreign minister, Elias Jaua, called Thursday on the peoples of South America and the Caribbean to continue on the path of preserving the peace and tranquility of the region.
"That effort should lead us to undertake the challenge of economic and social development, living well and integrity of our people. Unasur has shown it, has demonstrated the unity of our people. Union of each of our countries to consolidate political stability, the tranquility of our peoples and respect for democratic institutions that each of our citizens has been building," he said.
Jaua offered these statements after the Conference of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) on Natural Resources for a Comprehensive Development of the Region, held from 27 to 30 May in Caracas, attended by experts and representatives of the 12 countries that make up the regional bloc.
He added that it is imperative to respect diversity of our internal processes, "always with the common vision of making South America, as Hugo Chavez taught us, a power, but within a great power in a zone of peace."
"No one can have actions or gestures that contribute to or encourage those who still dream of the possibility that in Latin America we go back to the dark ages of dictatorship or civil confrontation, which resulted in genocide," he said.
Jaua referred to the violence after the losing candidate of the right, Henrique Capriles ignored the election results of April 14, the will of the people and institutions of the Venezuelan state.
He said that UNASUR statement urged all sectors participating in the presidential elections to respect the institutions and the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE).
"The countries gave a strong response: South America was united to ensure peace and stability of the Venezuelan people. They are examples of the importance of this instrument to avoid returning to the dark night of wars and fascist right military coups that caused so much pain to our people."
