Tegucigalpa, Aug 25 (Prensa Latina) Honduras' joining the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) on Monday resulted from the country's integration will, according to Liberal Party President Patricia Rodas.
"We are open to association processes among States to achieve development, eliminate inequalities, overcome asymmetries and share knowledge and resources," the political leader told Prensa Latina.
She added that the government of President Manuel Zelaya favors integration mechanism that can bring benefits to the majorities instead of to small groups or segments of society.
Rodas noted the importance of holding the ceremony to join the ALBA in front 50,000 citizens from the most representative sectors of this Central American country, who will witness the event.
"Many treaties and agreements are signed in small rooms, where just a few heads of State and their ministers are present, and the peoples learn about it in the news," she pointed out.
The ALBA, she said, will contribute new forms of trade, agreed upon and not imposed, as well as cooperation programs in the fields of energy and technological development that will help reactivate the national structure of food production.
Rodas noted that the people have seen clear benefits in the social field, including Operation Miracle, a solidarity initiative boosted by Cuba and Venezuela to operate on low-income people who suffer from visual problems.
At the same time, she added, by joining the ALBA, Honduras will have better conditions to integrate into the Central American region to meet the world's current challenges.
