Chavez Asks for Vigilance in Referendum

Caracas, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday the people should be attentive to actions of the opposition to obscure the results of the constitutional referendum on December 2.

During a women"s meeting, the president made a call for supporters to go out on the streets of Caracas to conclude the campaign for constitutional reform, and to work hard on Saturday on the voting machines and with the election witnesses.
"Nobody sleeps that night, because that is the night of the homeland"s labor, to go to the streets early, and we will not leave until the victory is sealed, because the empire has made its plan, the president said.
He asserted that when the National Electoral Council announces the referendum results, the opposition would reject them and accuse the government of fraud to justify violence, something supported by rightwing video tapes leaked to the media.
We will neutralize them, said the president, who recalled Monday"s incidents in Carabobo and Aragua states, where actions by those opposed to the reform left one dead and several people wounded.
He highlighted that the "imperialist media" broadcast those actions to create an image of ungovernability in Venezuela, but they do not say that most people are with Chavez, he said.
He noted that the Venezuelan Catholic hierarchy joined the campaign to manipulate the people, and has been using ecclesiastic symbols as political propaganda, youth pretending to be martyrs, and even television actresses.
However, he emphasized they would not kill him nor generate violence, nor stop the people from voting for the referendum, because the battle will be won, and for that he urged that supporters work to convince those still undecided.
